Axillary: Of or relating to the underarm.

Dermatologist: A physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating problems with the skin.

Dysphagia: Swallowing difficulty.

FDA: The US Food and Drug Administration is the governing agency that regulates all medicines in the United States.

Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale (HDSS): A questionnaire regarding the extent to which excessive underarm sweating affects your daily activities.

Hyperhidrosis: Excessive sweating.

Pharyngitis: Swelling of the throat.

Placebo: A treatment with no medication in it (eg, a sugar pill or injection of saline). Sometimes patients in clinical trials are given a placebo so that researchers can compare it to the effects of a medication.

Primary axillary hyperhidrosis: Excessive underarm sweating not caused by an underlying health problem.

Pruritus: Itching.

Sweating: Perspiration.

Sweat glands: A group of cells that secretes sweat, found in the skin.
